Thanks to the generous donation by Dave and Julie Gribbin, parents of Matthew Walker Gribbin, an Antioch College student who died by suicide in 2007, The S Word, a documentary directed by Lisa Klein aimed at bringing visibility to suicide, is now available for free use by our Antioch College campus community.

The award-winning documentary features powerful first-person testimony from suicide attempt survivors and families and loved ones affected by suicide completion. Klein examines suicide in its complexity and from the standpoint of personal experience, including perspectives from traditionally underrepresented populations, such as people of color.

Nzingha Dalila and Truth Garrett ’22 facilitated discussion of The S Word at a screening of the movie.

The film, in both a full-length and 60-minute classroom presentation version, and screening guides in both Spanish and English are available in this Google Drive folder, which can be accessed by anyone with an Antioch College email account. This program is a permanent resource for our campus community.

During the Fall 2018 quarter, Nzingha Dalila hosted a free screening of The S Word at Little Art Theatre in Yellow Springs, OH, with sponsorship from the Human Relations Commission and 365 Project. Truth Garrett ‘22 helped Nzingha facilitate a discussion after the film with attendees. Nzingha is available to help guide other students, staff, and faculty who would like to host a screening of The S Word on campus.
