Stephen “Steve” Edwin Freschl, age 99, formerly of Appleton, passed away in St. Louis Park, MN on February 1, 2019.

Born in Milwaukee on December 17, 1919 to the late Max and Irma (Goldsmith) Freschl, he graduated from Antioch College and served as a Captain in the US Army and the Army Reserves from 1943-1956.

He was married to his beloved wife Dorothy (Dodie) Frank for 58 years. They raised three children in Appleton where Steve owned a business for 20 years before serving in management positions at Appleton Wire Works and then Appleton Papers, leading Appleton Papers into the computer era when he was between the ages of 65-70.

He was a kind, gentle man, devoted to his family and community. He was an active member of Kiwanis Golden K, Appleton,and Congregation B’nai Israel in Oshkosh, where he served on the board of directors for many years. He also volunteered at Appleton Medical Center well into his 90s.

Steve is survived by his son, Larry (Gloria) Freschl; daughters, Ginny (Ray) Levi and Betsy (David) Koos; grandchildren, Debra (Joe) Sanger, Marc (Jessie) Freschl, Dan (Christina) Freschl, Mara (Meredith Palmer) Levi, and Dina (AllieRobbins) Levi, 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dodie, in 2002. A funeral was held February 4, 2019 at the Wichmann Tri-County Chapel, 1592 Oneida St., Menasha 54952. Interment was at Zion Cemetery, 820 E. Wisconsin Ave., Appleton. Steve’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Parkshore Senior Community, Synergy Home Care, Heartland Hospice, and the Minneapolis VA. Donations in Steve’s memory can be made to Congregation B’nai Israel, Oshkosh, Shir Tikvah Congregation, Minneapolis, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
