9to5: The Story of a Movement by Academy Award-winning filmmakers Julia Reichert ’70 and Steve Bognar made its national debut on PBS on Monday, February 1, 2021.
The full-length documentary explores a pivotal—but little remembered—intersection of women’s rights and labor rights in the early 1970s. In the wake of the Women’s Liberation Movement, a group of women in Boston joined together to begin 9to5, a still-relevant movement addressing still-relevant issues such as sexual harassment, pay equity, the “glass ceiling,” and the need for employer-supported family and medical leave. Their story inspired the eponymous 1980 hit film and song.
