Alan M. Beasley of Westport, CT, passed away at home on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the age of 96 after a brief illness. He was born November 2, 1924 in Glen Rock, NJ, to the late Harry K. and Dorothy (Litson) Beasley.

Alan is survived by his partner Jo Ann Davidson, and three daughters: Carol Beasley of Boston, MA, Ellen Beasley (Kevin Baker) of Burlingame, CA and Janet Beasley (Brian Titus) of Newtown, PA. To his blended family, Alan welcomed the addition of four Titus children: Jamie, Allie, Sean and Mark.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (McAdoo) Beasley ‘51 (2007), daughter Joanne (Beasley) Garbett (2008), brother Harry K. Beasley Jr. ’41 (2010), and sister Alice (Beasley) Pardee ’53 (2014).

Alan served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946 and was a member of the US occupation forces in Japan. With the benefit of the GI Bill, he attended and graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH where he met and married Patricia McAdoo in 1951. His work took him all over the northeast selling industrial heat-treating products.

He was an abiding lover of the sea, boats, and fishing; music, especially opera, jazz, and Broadway musicals; and good home-cooked food. He was someone who could fix or build almost anything and took joy in serving others, whether plowing a neighbor’s driveway in winter, lending a power tool or ladder, or volunteering to drive elders to medical appointments.

His friends and family knew him as a steadfast friend, helper, and source of wise counsel. He rejoiced in his daughters’ professional and personal accomplishments. He followed current events closely and stood for peace, fairness, equality, and respect for all. His subtle and often ironic sense of humor never deserted him.

Alan requested no memorial service. He can be remembered with a kind thought or a memorial gift to one of the following:

By check to The Nature Conservancy in CT, 55 Church St., 3rd Floor, New Haven, CT 06510. Please include a note: “This is a tribute donation, in memory of Alan Beasley (Westport, CT) and the donation is for the Long Island Sound Program.”
