That recording is the heart and soul of An Irish Christmas\, and Mick is delighted to be bringing it to American audiences alongside two of his favorite musical partners. \nCathie Ryan is a natural fit for this holiday tour\, having carved out a reputation for her own beloved Christmas performances over the years. A highly regarded singer\, songwriter\, performer\, and educator\, Cathie is a towering presence in traditional music circles on both sides of the Atlantic. She and John have been musical collaborators for decades – he has played guitar and contributed arrangements to three of her studio recordings\, they have toured as a duo throughout Europe\, and together they have penned songs that have earned a permanent place in the Irish music repertoire. Their compositions Carrick-a-Rede and Grace O’Malley are now staples of the tradition. Both are members of The Irish Music Masters and are featured on the PBS television special The Soul of Christmas. \nAll three have toured together before\, and their chemistry on stage is undeniable. DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n			\n				Season Ticket Packages\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Bonnie “Prince” BillyWe Are Together Again \nHowever dimly we perceive it\, we are living through a change of worlds. The one we were born into is slipping away\, reshaped and denuded by human action. What remains is the question of what we will carry forward\, and the manner in which we refuse to surrender ourselves. Will Oldham’s new album\, We Are Together Again\, feels like an answer to these questions. In Oldham’s songs – and in the circle of others who’ve gathered beneath the name Bonnie “Prince” Billy on this endeavor – friendship\, community\, and the stubborn joy of making art with others become a means of persistence. This isn’t to say that the record is a denial of collapse\, which would be delusion\, so much as that models defiance by remaining fully human\, fully joyful\, in a world with a diminishing horizon… I’m talking about Oldham’s record\, to be sure\, but I think the answers he suggests in We Are Together Again speak to the only meaningful choices any of us can make at this point in all of the agonizing everything.  \nYou can hear it in “Life Is Scary Horses\,” when Oldham concedes\, “The human times have come and gone.  We must accept our rule is done\, though love is sown and will live on. Come to me\, let me see your eyes once more before the winter comes again.” The song modulates from minor to major in tone\, almost sunny. This could read as irony\, but to my ear it’s something closer to grace. That’s the spirit running through We Are Together Again: not denial\, but fragile endurance and thankfulness for the moments we have. \n“Friend Named Joe” and “Davey Dead” form the emotional heart of the record. In the former\, Oldham sings “And when it feels like life is just a series of delusions\, Joe can show that\, even though it all feels like illusion\, it’s real; and yesterday bears no resemblance to tomorrow. You fly towards death so full of life and love and joy and sorrow.” And in the latter\, “If you destroy a child’s perspective\, here’s what that child will do: be faced with unrelenting trial and render terror back at you.”  \nThe album begins and ends with “Why is the Lion” and “Bride of the Lion\,” which serve as thesis and conclusion\, offering an invocation that seems to float above the rest of the work: “Hope of something beginning to rise from the floor of the ring…is it my voice\, or\, better yet\, ours?” A melody cleaning the world\, “scouring the filth from the light.” That’s what the album sounds like: people trying\, not to fix anything\, but to keep the light clear long enough to recognize each other in it. \nThe feeling of community is earned honestly since We Are Together Again is as much as gathering as a record or a statement. The studio becomes a meeting ground\, a small republic of sound. Oldham’s friends\, colleagues and even family— including — Tory Fisher\, Lacey Guthrie\, Katie Peabody\, Catherine Irwin\, Sally Timms\, Maggie Halfman\, Nuala Kennedy\, Ned Oldham\, Thomas Deakin\, Jacob Duncan and Erin Hill  – lend their voices\, turning solitude into shared witness. \nA sense of human beauty runs through everything here. Each voice remains distinct\, yet folds into something larger. We Are Together Again doesn’t resolve fear; it meets it with harmony. It’s a record about the stubborn miracle of accompaniment. SUMMARY:Puuluup at the Foundry Theater
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\n			\n				Season Ticket Packages\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Puuluup was formed in 2014 by two talharpa enthusiasts Ramo Teder and Marko Veisson. Ramo Teder is a multi-instrumentalist and has been known for his long solo project Pastacas. He is also a looping pioneer in Estonia and has mastered these skills for twenty years already. Marko Veisson has a background in anthropology and his fieldwork in Northern Ghana as well as his love for West-African music have definitely influenced Puuluup’s style. \nThey play their own compositions on Talharpas – a traditional bowed lyre\, popular in Northern Europe since the early Middle Ages and played on Western Estonian islands until the beginning of 20th century. Puuluup directs the vibrations of Talharpa’s horsehair strings through effect blocks and looper\, uses alternative bowing and drumming techniques and sounds. The mellow sighs of talharpa are paired with electronically amplified echoes\, knocks\, creaks and crackles\, while still maintaining the instrument’s natural sound. \nThey play with music as they play with words\, sometimes creating their own language. As the band states: “We draw inspiration from Vormsi nights\, trams in November\, junkies in love\, criminals from Odessa and Antonio Vivaldi”. As a side dish\, when giving live concerts they also offer choreographic flittering which emerged on its own during the numerous days these two man spent in the rehearsal rooms. Their humor and warm charisma flows generously from the stage\, drawing the audience in. \nBecause of their unique approach to this traditional instrument Puuluup received several music awards in Estonia including the best Band\, the best Ensemble\, for the best Album. Their popularity in Estonia and abroad is rapidly growing. The band performed in Canada\, USA\, China\, Chile\, France\, Germany\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Portugal\, Macedonia\, Hungary\, Slovenia\, Ukraine\, Taiwan among others. \nLineup:Ramo Teder – talharpa\, vocal\, looper and effects pedalsMarko Veisson – talharpa\, vocal\, effects pedal board \nPuuluup about themselves:Two men in midlife crisis who have decided to start living rock & roll lifestyle with the help of their instruments\, talharpas. \nWhat inspires them:All kinds of random sources of inspiration are similarly important for their music – unexpected excerpts from Polish TV series\, old Estonian punk\, klezmer\, African gospel\, Sahel music\, hip-hop\, Antonio Vivaldi even R&B\, even windmills and wires forgotten in the car… \nWho inspires them:Buena Vista Social Club – they make them feel still rather young and give hope that they have a long career ahead. \nTheir performance:The lyrics are to set the mood. Mostly they are rather abstract and are open to different interpretations. As a jazz saxophonist\, flamenco singer and composer\, Lizana’s live shows are described as a “breathtaking journey from flamenco roots to contemporary jazz”\, bound together by soulful lyrics that carry messages of optimism and sincerity straight to the heart of his audiences. \nAntonio Lizana has performed in more than 30 countries with his band\, playing in festivals such as Womex\, Etnosur\, SXSW Austin\, the London\, New York\, Los Angeles and San Francisco Flamenco Festivals\, Barcelona Voll Damn\, Shanghai Jazz Fest (China)\, Casablanca Jazz Fest (Morocco) and Flamenco Biennale (Holland). \nBorn and raised in San Fernando\, a province of Cádiz and one of the cradles of flamenco singing\, his collaborations with countless local artists have informed his technique and style\, and allowed him to go on to share the authentic flamenco spirit with the world. He has collaborated with artists such as Arturo O’Farrill and Alejandro Sanz on works that received Grammy awards. It’s a celebration of the things we do\, say\, and sing to keep ourselves going as we hurtle toward the finish line. Through a series of stories and songs both hilarious and heartbreaking\, We’re Gonna Die offers proof positive that being alive is about more than just awaiting the inevitable.  \nThis is the second Ohio production of We’re Gonna Die\, the first was at the Wexner Center in Columbus in October of 2013 by Young Jean Lee and her band Future Wife.  \nIn August 2015\, a production was part of David Byrne’s Meltdown takeover series at Southbank Centre in London. It featured David Byrne as the lead singer while Lee performed the monologues\, with Future Wife performing.  \nIn this production\, produced in partnership with Mad River Theater Works\, regional talent will take the stage; the music will be performed by NOVENA with Emma Woodruff as lead singer\, the monologues will be done by several actors\, and the show directed by Justin Simons.  \nIt’s time to get real and rock out about the one thing we all have in common: WE’RE GONNA DIE. Playwright Young Jean Lee blends storytelling\, stand-up\, music\, and theater into a funny\, sweet\, and darkly weird song cycle that lets us know we may be miserable\, but at least we won’t be alone. Boldly exploring the less awesome moments of life with outrageous humor and powerful insight\, this Obie-award winning cabaret-style event moves audiences to a charged collective catharsis.
