SUMMARY:Celebration of Sisterhood\, Coretta & Maya
DESCRIPTION:This event is an acknowledgment and celebration of the lifelong works of Coretta Scott King  and Maya Angelou to address America’s historical racial and social injustices through their art\, humanities\, civil rights\, and social justice efforts. Recognition will also be given to additional Americans whose work closely aligns with theirs. Both Coretta Scott King and Maya Angelou were born in the month of April\, and both left the world better thanks to their legacy tireless and important actions. \nClick here to register.

This year\, the Luncheon will be held at The Antioch College Wellness Center.\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Congratulationsto the 2022 Coretta Scott King Awardees\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Julian RobertsThe Coretta Scott King Trailblazer Award 2022 \nJulian Roberts is a Yellow Springs native who graduated from Yellow Springs High School in 2017. In the summer of 2020\, following the death of George Floyd\, issues of racism and police brutality were once again staring the country in the face. Julian\, like many other members of the community\, felt the urge to do something. For over 20 weeks\, YS Black Lives Matter led by Julian and many others\, met every week\, organized marches\, civil disobedience and gained momentum that in turn uplifted black artists\, speakers\, and activists in the Village of Yellow Springs and the broader Dayton and regional area. \nJulie\, is an example of the power of collective action\, and multigenerational community organizing. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Dion GreenThe Coretta Scott King Legacy Award 2022 \nMr. Dion Green is the Founder/CEO of Flourishing Under Distress Given Encouragement (FUDGE) a nonprofit that helps survivors through traumatic experiences with resources and support. Mr. Green is a survivor\, overcoming many personal obstacles and showing others how they can survive too. He is an advocate on issues of gun violence\, mental health\, and gun legislation inspired by the mass shooting that occurred in Dayton\, Ohio in August of 2019\, which claimed his father’s life and many other innocent victims. Dion speaks around the country and in communities that have been impacted by gun violence. In addition to his foundation\, gun legislation advocacy service\, and gun rally participation\, he serves on the Board of Felons with a Future\, Upturn Ohio and numerous other community initiatives and support networks across the country. Mr. Green is a mentor\, leader and change agent for the community. \nDion\, is an example of the power of healing\, advocacy\, and strategic action on behalf of our local and national communities. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Adriane H. MillerThe Coretta Scott King Legacy Award 2022 \nAdriane is currently the Executive Director at the National Conference for Community and Justice of Greater Dayton (NCCJ). While in this position she has helped the organization expand their youth and corporate programming providing opportunities to help create both individual and organizational change agents. She collaborated in creating and implementing Diversity 101\, a four-part training series that has been implemented in many organizations throughout the Miami Valley. Adriane Miller is a passionate\, insightful and committed community connector who sees potential in every situation. She works to create brave spaces where everyone feels welcome. Adriane is respected for her openness\, honesty and ability to connect with everyone. \nAdriane is an example of the importance of being intentional in our relationships. As a community connector\, she brings together multiple perspectives and actively seeks to create spaces that are multigenerational and brave for us all.
