SUMMARY:Poet Ross Gay with Janan Alexandra
DESCRIPTION:Ross Gay is interested in joy. Ross Gay wants to understand joy. \nRoss Gay is curious about joy. Ross Gay studies joy. \nSomething like that. \n~ \nRoss Gay is the author of four books of poetry: Against Which; Bringing the Shovel Down; Be Holding\, winner of the PEN American Literary Jean Stein Award; and Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude\, winner of the 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award and the 2016 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award. In addition to his poetry\, Ross has released three collections of essays—The Book of Delights was released in 2019 and was a New York Times bestseller; Inciting Joy was released in 2022\, and his newest collection\, The Book of (More) Delights was released in September of 2023 \n– \nJanan Alexandra \nIn her debut poetry collection\, COME FROM\, janan alexandra weaves from English into Arabic\, exploring the joint projects of longing and belonging. \nPart love song for the speaker’s mother\, part grief song for ongoing postcolonial loss\, this book reaches for\, around\, underneath\, and through language—feeling for its limits and possibilities. \nDrawing on both narrative and lyric impulses\, alexandra invites readers into a world bristling with family\, memory\, home\, and inheritance—all in the wake of dislocation and fracture. In one section of the book\, we follow the speaker “back home” after years of separation; later\, we encounter a series of parables in the form of an Arabic abecedarian\, through which the speaker recovers parts of her mother tongue. Here\, alexandra probes the gifts and wounds of language\, invoking personal and communal histories marked with the longue durée of empire. \n  \n \n Get Tickets\n \n Season Ticket Packages\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This program is being supported by Mad River Theater Works\, generous funding from the Ohio Arts Council’s ArtsNext program\, the Yellow Springs Community Foundation and the Yellow Springs Library Association.   \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Updated Event Location: Herndon Gallery at Antioch College\, South Hall\, 805 Livermore Street\, Yellow Springs\, OH 45387 \nParking: Please note that parking is available in the lot behind the Wellness Center / OK Library. SUMMARY:Mad River Theater Works presents: "No More Knocking"
DESCRIPTION:No More Knocking \nMad River Theater Works presents an evening of uplifting\, searching and socially minded hiphop from regional artists including Tronee Threat\, Chris.\, Blakk Sun\, and Kai the Action Kid. A live concert experience built around a single door — once closed\, now open — where music\, movement\, and presence trace the journey from denied access to inherited freedom. With minimal dialogue and a powerful visual narrative\, each artist moves through the door to tell the story of what happens after it finally opens.\n \n Get Tickets\n \n Season Ticket Packages\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Updated Event Location: Herndon Gallery at Antioch College\, South Hall\, 805 Livermore Street\, Yellow Springs\, OH 45387 \nParking: Please note that parking is available in the lot behind the Wellness Center / OK Library. SUMMARY:Mark Lomax: "The Unity Suite"
DESCRIPTION:Mark Lomax II and the Urban Art Ensemble will present their new release\, The Unity Suite\, which draws musical inspiration from Lomax’s experiences in the Black church.\nExperience a musical performance focused on elevating the human spirit through healing\, transformation\, and unifying the human family. The Unity Suite\, a composition in six movements\, shows how music was used to facilitate spiritual transformation in the church performers and the congregation\, allowing them to thrive in the midst of physical\, political\, economic\, and psychological terror. Lomax invokes the power of Black sacred music and worship traditions to engage the global challenges humanity must overcome to save itself and the planet\, and to find a spiritual balance with the cosmos. Lomax has performed at the Foundry in each of the past two seasons and we welcome him back with this stunning new work. \nUrban Art Ensemble\nKenyatta Beasley – trumpet\nRob Dixon – alto saxophone\nEdwin Bayard – tenor and soprano saxophones\nWilliam Menefield – piano\nDean Hulett – bass\nMark Lomax II – drums and composition \n \n Get Tickets\n \n Season Ticket Packages\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Updated Event Location: Herndon Gallery at Antioch College\, South Hall\, 805 Livermore Street\, Yellow Springs\, OH 45387 \nParking: Please note that parking is available in the lot behind the Wellness Center / OK Library. SUMMARY:Sam Amidon
DESCRIPTION:Sam Amidon is a singer and multi-instrumentalist (banjo\, guitar\, fiddle) from Vermont\, US\, now based in London\, England. His new album “Salt River” was released by River Lea / Rough Trade on 24th January 2025. He has previously released seven acclaimed albums of songs on Bedroom Community and Nonesuch Records. \nAmidon’s material for these albums often consists of adventurous reworkings of traditional American ballads\, hymns and work songs\, with the New York Times writing that Amidon “transforms all of the songs\, changing their colors and loading them with trapdoors.” The albums have been deeply collaborative in nature\, inviting contributions from musicians such as composer Nico Muhly\, guitarist Bill Frisell\, and on “Salt River\,” saxophonist/producer Sam Gendel. \nThe release of “Salt River” comes on the heels of Sam’s work with choreographer Michael Keegan Dolan on the dance theatre music show Nobodaddy for which Sam was nominated as “Outstanding Creative Contribution” by the National Dance Awards Critics Circle in the UK. He also worked on the recently released film “History of Sound\,” starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor\, wherein Amidon served as a music advisor and performer. The film had its premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.  \nPreviously\, Sam Amidon has recorded or performed as a guest artist with musicians such as Bon Iver\, The National\, The Blind Boys of Alabama\, The Gloaming\, Lonnie Holley\, Manami Kakudo\, Jacob Collier\, Marc Ribot\, and Beth Orton\, among many others. He has appeared internationally as a soloist with ensembles such as the Kronos Quartet\, The Aurora Orchestra\, the Australian Chamber Orchestra with Pekka Kuusisto\, The Scottish Chamber Orchestra\, The Oregon Symphony\, Roomful of Teeth\, and the Britten Sinfonia.  \n \n Get Tickets\n \n Season Ticket Packages\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Updated Event Location: Herndon Gallery at Antioch College\, South Hall\, 805 Livermore Street\, Yellow Springs\, OH 45387 \nParking: Please note that parking is available in the lot behind the Wellness Center / OK Library.
