SUMMARY:Getting to the Root Workshop

SUMMARY:Virtual Screening of "Apart"
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Screening of Apart\nThursday\, February 10\, 2022\, 7:00-8:30 PM \nThe Coretta Scott King Center for Intellectual and Cultural Freedom of Antioch College and Independent Lens\, ITVS Correspondent Michael Bare\, 02’ are pleased to announce a virtual screening preview of Apart\, an intimate portrait that examines the impact of America’s war on drugs on the lives of three mothers who rebuild their lives by participating in an  innovative prison program in Cleveland\, Ohio. \nAs Tomika\, Lydia\, and Amanda prepare to rejoin their families after years of incarceration they lean on each other and on mentors who have also been in prison\, with the hope of redemption on the horizon\, the women work to regain the trust of their children and combat stigmas associated with people who have been incarcerated. This is a poignant film about the intersection of gender\, class\, race and the systemic and structural realities of oppression in the lives of those incarcerated and their families. \nThe Coretta Scott King Center for Intellectual and Cultural Freedom wishes to thank screening partners\, Building Freedom Ohio; Legal Services for Prisoners with Children; Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry; Ohio Organizing Collaborative; Oklahomans for Criminal Justice Reform; Represent Justice; Voice of the Experienced (VOTE) for their courage and resolve\, by lifting the voices in these stories we make a small step towards centering humanity. \nWe also wish to thank Mary Evans\, Events and Social Media Manager\, Matt Walker Advancement Services Assistant and faculty member\, Catalina Jordan\, Assistant Professor of Media Arts for their vision and commitment to partnering with organizations whose work is an active contribution to the Prison Justice movement in our nation. \nRegister here: \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/apart-an-independent-lens-stories-for-justice-screening-and-conversation-tickets-239447954277 \nIf you would like additional information\, please email us at cskc@antiochcollege.edu
