SUMMARY:HERNDON EXHIBITIONS/Black History: A Work In Progress
DESCRIPTION:Herndon Gallery invites you to witness\nBlack History: A Work in Progress\nAn exploration and exhibition highlighting Black History and its constant influence on our lives. \nFebruary 18 – March 28\, 2022\nGallery Hours Tuesday through Saturday 1 pm – 4 pm \nThe frame\, for lack of a better word\, is in recognizing and celebrating black history and black folk’s contributions across different aspects of the culture\, and how those contributions have come from this area specifically. Contributions from the Antioch community\, contributions by organizations that are part of the community of Yellow Springs\, contributions from scholars\, visual artists\, performance artists\, musicians\, students from the college to students from the schools in town. \nThe common connection is in the intersectional nature of our relationships to each other in this part of Ohio\, and the recognition that the eclectic mix of materials in the exhibition further demonstrate that black history is our history\, it appears everywhere\, and that by celebrating its importance transcends the idea that one month a year provides adequate representation. This practice only makes it easy for people to compartmentalize the work that is ongoing 24 hours of the day\, 365 days of the year.  \nThis multi-media exhibit features artwork and material contributions from: \nCecil Taylor\nBen Shahn\nGabrielle Civil\nTruth Garrett\nJewel Graham\nThe People’s Banner Workshop\nJohn Sims\nSumayah Chapelle\nMatt Shelton\nSarah Dickens\nChuck Smart\nBing Davis\nKarsten Creightney\nRosamond S. SUMMARY:Getting to the Root Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Getting to the Root: 2-Day Intensive Workshop on Racial justice\nGetting To The Root is a workshop where participants will experience a humanistic process for laying a foundation to explore how we have been socialized and conditioned to think about race and racism.\n\nThis intensive\, interactive process challenges participants to analyze the structures of power and privilege that hinder social equity and prepares them to be effective organizers for justice.\n\nSystemic racism exists\, advantaging White people while disadvantaging those who are Black\, Indigenous and People of Color. To get real and do something about it\, we must be willing to learn from history\, understand power and organize for social justice and equity.\n\nFaculty includes Premier Trainers: Barbara Major and David Billings\nRegistration is open for the February 3\, 2022 and March 3\, 2022 sessions. Register today at: https://alumni.antiochcollege.edu/events \nCost per participant is $350 USD. There are scholarships available.
