On The Difficulty Of Remembering: Karen Shirley Memorial Exhibition
July 11 - September 27Free
A survey of the range of studio activity Antioch College alumna Karen Shirley ’61 pursued while a faculty member in the Antioch College Art Department (1970-98) and subsequently as Faculty Emerita (1999-2019).
Over nearly 50 years her work involved novel explorations in ceramics, site specific installations, experimental drawing and printmaking, and an extended visual essay on the rural environs of Yellow Springs.
Her early work was set in motion by contemporary issues in American Art, experimental film, and by numerous visits to Japan. Her late work was increasingly informed by a handful of minimalist artists who stimulated her own strategies for paring down her studio work to core essences.
