Position Summary:
The Languages and Cultures Program at Antioch College seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of Spanish Language and Culture to begin Aug 15, 2023. This is a tenure track appointment within the Humanities Division teaching a load of 2 courses per quarter, 3 quarters per academic year, and with scholarly engagement, service and mentorship/advising responsibilities including capstone research guidance for small class sizes and with additional opportunities to contribute to humanities offerings.Courses are expected to deploy research-backed best practices with a focus on oral proficiency and intercultural competency in a program with a unique connection to interdisciplinary majors. Applicants must have native or near-native command of Spanish and a Ph.D. in an associated literary, historical, or philosophical field, those with Second Language Acquisition or Language Pedagogy being highly preferred. Candidates with terminal degrees in related fields will also be considered. College teaching experience is required and experience with proficiency-based programs is preferred, as is significant experience in Latin America. The successful applicant will teach courses in Spanish Language and Culture at all undergraduate levels through primarily face-to-face but also some online courses. Student advising duties will include language placement interviews, and mentorship in view of placing students in international co-op work programs. The ideal candidate will have the ability to contribute to all departmental events and programs.
In addition to evidence of successful proficiency-based language teaching experience, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to quality undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Applicants must be currently eligible to work in the United States in order to be considered for this position.
