Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for developing and implementing HR policies, programs, and initiatives that support the mission and goals of the college. This role oversees all aspects of human resources, including strategic planning, employee engagement, policy development, compliance, talent management, and organizational development. This role ensures the effective administration of HR programs related to employee files management, FMLA, workers’ compensation, parental leave, terminations, and performance improvement plans (PIP), while fostering a positive and compliant workplace culture.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies that align with the college’s long-term goals and institutional priorities.
  • Analyze HR metrics and trends to drive data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Lead initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture that promotes employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.
  • Design and manage employee recognition and wellness programs.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and revision of HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies and best practices across all departments.
  • Enter and maintain all employee data within the Paycor system, process employee (both student and non-student) personal, payroll, and employment information in the Paycor system including, new employment information, compensation, position or status changes, leave information, etc.
  • Direct recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to attract and maintain a diverse and high-performing workforce.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in compliance with legal and institutional requirements.
  • Manage employee relations, including conflict resolution, workplace investigations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Manage and oversee FMLA, ADA accommodations, parental leave, and other leave policies, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Administer workers’ compensation claims, coordinating with insurance providers and legal teams as needed
  • Ensure compliance with disability accommodations and return-to-work programs.
  • Handle terminations and off boarding processes in accordance with best practices and legal guidelines.
  • Serve as a representative of staff affairs on the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Council.
  • In coordination with the Director of Financial Aid, oversee the College’s GLBA (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act) Information Security Program
  • Assist the Title IX Coordinator in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct.
  • Support investigations and resolutions of Title IX complaints involving faculty and staff.
  • Provide guidance on policies related to discrimination, harassment, and workplace safety.
  • Assist with Title IX training and awareness programs for employees.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (required)
  • At least 5+ years of experience in human resources, including 3-5 years in a leadership role, ideally in a non-profit or academic environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Drive, Power Point, Microsoft Word, Excel. Paycor experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers’ compensation, Medicare, Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws, regulations, and best practices in human resources management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and positively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of HR practice.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing employee performance improvement processes, including coaching, development plans, and terminations.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all appropriate areas while maintaining a positive and solution oriented demeanor.
  • Demonstrated high degree of independent judgment and high level of accountability for decision making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; particularly Word and Excel.

PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Position works extensively in an office environment; seated or standing and utilizing standard office equipment such as networked computers, telephones, copiers, fax machines.
  • Indoor office environment; heated and cooled institutionally.
  • Occasional requirement to move around campus and in other locations, indoors and outdoors, over paved and rough terrain experiencing local temperature and weather variations.
