Position Summary:

The Junior Staff Accountant is a development position for a newer accounting professional. The position will provide support to the foundational needs of a finance department in a small, liberal arts college. Development opportunities exist to work on increasingly complex accounting practices including the processing and review of financial and budget information and assisting the Controller in the financial oversight of the accounting functions of a college.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Assist with the financial reporting process:

  • Journal entries
  • Reconciliation of general ledger accounts as assigned
  • Month and year end close
  • Financial statements

Preparation of monthly reconciliations for all bank accounts.

Manage student accounts including one-on-one student interaction.

Process cash receipts for tuition, room and board, grants, donor gifts and pledges and post to general ledger.

Assist with annual external audit.

Maintenance of accounting and related processes adhering to internal control standards.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in business with emphasis in accounting, finance or related discipline

One year of full-time work experience in the accounting field in a non-profit environment, preferred

DESIRED SKILLS: 

Knowledge of and experience working with and adhering to current accounting practices.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications – Excellent EXCEL abilities a plus

Must be detail oriented, accurate and possess the ability to organize, plan and work on different projects simultaneously.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate well (both verbal and written) with other members of the organization.
