Antioch College invites applications for a full-time, one-year faculty position for the 2025-26 academic year within its Cooperative Education Program. The one-year appointment will begin on August 11, 2025. For more than 100 years, a critical component of the Antioch College education model has been the Cooperative Education (Co-op) program. All students are required to participate in co-op, gaining full-time immersive work experience in local, national and international settings. Co-op expands the boundaries of the liberal arts learning environment by developing employment opportunities where students learn on the job and expand their professional skills, engage in diverse communities of practice, and explore career pathways. As one of ten federal work colleges in the nation, Antioch is committed to providing meaningful work opportunities for all students to have access to an affordable undergraduate degree that prepares them for careers beyond college. The co-op faculty member will be responsible for advising students as they apply and prepare for a variety of co-op experiences, as well as the oversight and assessment of the eleven-week cooperative work term. This includes instruction of the co-op field experience courses in which students document and reflect on their experiential learning while on co-op, earning full-time academic credit.

Qualified candidates are expected to distinguish themselves as student-centered educators committed to experiential learning, adept at career advising, and able to bring industry experience in the areas of social enterprise, community engagement, advocacy, or small business development. The co-op faculty member’s area of expertise should align with our curricular interdisciplinary pathways in Social Enterprise and Social Innovation, and/or Culture, Power and Change. The focus of this position is on building co-op partnerships for student employment and expanding professional opportunities with purpose-driven businesses and community non-profit organizations, while acting as an advisor and mentor to students who are preparing for co-op jobs in various parts of the country.

The faculty member will be expected to cultivate opportunities with employers, contribute to grant development efforts, instruct the field experience courses taken by students during their co-op terms, and assist students with co-op preparation prior to placement. The faculty member advises Co-op students before, during, and after their field experiences; teaches introductory courses on meaningful work, documents program achievements in order to ensure proper reporting; and coordinates supplemental program activities. They work closely with faculty members in the interdisciplinary pathways in Social Enterprise and Social Innovation, and/or Culture, Power and Change and may be asked to teach an occasional divisional course in alignment with a curricular pathway or a practicum course at one of the campus learning-hubs. The successful applicant will actively engage with the campus community, and may represent the Co-op program on campus committees, with alumni constituents, or in local partnerships in Yellow Springs and the surrounding region.

Qualifications for the co-op faculty position include an advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) and demonstrated achievements in social enterprise, justice studies, community advocacy, or related fields. Teaching experience within cooperative education, service learning, field-based education, or another form of experiential education programming is highly preferred. Experience in and commitment to liberal arts education is desirable. Candidates should possess solid organizational skills; have the ability to adapt themselves to new software packages and online teaching interfaces; be willing to carry out a variety of administrative tasks including maintaining regular telephone, email, and face-to-face contact with employers; and most importantly, engage in sustained dialogue with students and be willing to work hard to meet their needs. Adaptability, resourcefulness, a sense of humor, public speaking ability, and strong communication skills will be necessary for success.

Application review begins immediately and the position is open until filled. To apply, please send a CV and cover letter that addresses your interest in the position and your commitment to undergraduate teaching, experiential learning, and supporting the needs of a diverse student body on a multicultural campus committed to inclusion. Materials can be sent to oaa@antiochcollege.edu. Questions about the Cooperative Education program at Antioch College can be directed to Luisa Bieri, dean of cooperative, international and community-based learning, at lbieri@antiochcollege.edu.
