Darryl Cox was born January 18, 1949, in San Francisco, California. He was the son of Edna Bradley and Charles Cox, who both preceded him in death. As a child, he attended Guadalupe and John McClure Elementary Schools in California. He then attended Luther Burbank Junior High School and later Woodrow Wilson High School, where he graduated in 1966. Following high school, he attended culinary school in San Francisco where he served as a cook for several years as a Merchant Marine.

In 1972 he was a teacher at Opportunity High School where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Chester. He graduated San Francisco’s Antioch West in 1972 where he majored in Political Science, after which graduating Harvard University’s John Fitzgerald Kennedy School of Government with a Masters in Public Administration. Darryl transitioned from the Merchant Marines into a field of political servitude. He was a legislative aide to three prominent supervisors in the San Francisco area. He served under Nancy Walker, Willie Kennedy, and Doris Ward, respectively. At San Francisco Community College, he served as Dean of Students where he successfully planned all student activities. He then returned to Boston where he took on the job of Public Policy Director at Youthbuild . Later, he relocated to Washington, DC where he was the Public Policy Director for a housing development corporation. In the fall of 1996, he moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he worked as the Public Housing Policy Director for the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency. In the summer of 1997, he and Carolyn reconnected and were married on July 5, 1997. From their loving union, God blessed them with the adoption of Corey Charles, Corporal Marchan Bryce, and Chloe Danielle.

Daryl’s hobbies were listening to all genre of music (especially jazz); reading, writing, and talking; being on Facebook (about politics); and his family, whom he loved dearly.

Darryl transitioned from this world on February 23, 2019 and is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn; three children, Corey, Marchan and Chloe; sisters, Cynthia Clampton of Pinole, CA and Sharon Plousha (David) of Fairfield, CA; his mother-in-law Mrs. Gladys Stith Chester; his aunt Charlotte Stith Chester; his loving aunts in California and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be sorely missed.
