In October of 1850 the Christian Church, a small, largely rural Protestant sect of Millerite persuasion, met in Marion, NY (about 50 miles west of Syracuse) for its annual General Convention. The biggest item on the agenda was “the college project”.
Exactly three years later, almost to the hour in fact, Horace Mann was installed as the first president of Antioch College before an assembled throng of over 3,000 – twice the population of Yellow Springs at the time.
This event is free and open to the public. Please come and join us as we celebrate Antioch College’s birthday – yes, there will be cake!
Join us on The Horseshoe Lawn in front of Antioch Hall at 4:00 pm to hear from our speakers and guests. After this short program we will celebrate in the South Gym of The Wellness Center at Antioch College with refreshments and community.
