Orientation Team Responsibilities

All OLs & OLCs: 

  • As a cohesive team enthusiastically welcome new students to Antioch
  • Report on time, ready to work, for any and all assignments or shifts designated
  • Facilitating and attending weekly virtual activities for incoming students prior to move-in and orientation
  • Assist with residence hall move-in
  • Greet, guide, and assist students, families, and support folks, provide campus information, resource and event information and escorting, share general knowledge about the Yellow Springs community, direct visitors towards appropriate parties for assistance
  • Answer questions and concerns with positive, affinity-building, community-focused information that enables new community members to transition well while building core competencies that will help them persist and succeed
  • Create and implement engaging community-building activities and meetings
  • Assist with preparation and clean up of spaces, taking direction from lead OL and Student Affairs team members to support orientation schedule
  • Communicate with orientation planning committee members with daily feedback, notes on students in need/of concern, adjustments that should be made prior to start of next day
  • Respond as needed to crises and emergencies with calm professionalism, respecting confidentiality, and utilizing resources/reporting structures as indicated in training
  • Other duties as assigned

OLC-specific:

  • Provide leadership & guidance to OLs, assisting with delegation of responsibilities, mentoring, and ensuring completion of tasks
  • Complete administrative tasks, design and implement training and activities schedule for OLs to follow, manage performance and accountability for these tasks, keep OLs on schedule and abreast of upcoming events
  • Create feedback mechanism to evaluate activities, monitor and adjust for increased engagement, reach out to specific students to encourage participation, identify and remove barriers to attendance, connect to staff as needed to resolve any challenges
  • Report back to planning committee on a weekly basis, offer recommendations for future planning
  • Create and communicate orientation assignments and schedule to OLs on a daily basis during orientation, preview activities and troubleshoot

Compensation:

  • $10.45/hour for virtual work (must use Paycor to log time!)
  • $500 stipend for orientation & training days (paid after orientation week)
  • Meals and housing provided during training/orientation dates

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty
  • Should have the ability to use technology to join/host virtual pre-orientation sessions as needed
  • Present strong time management, organizational, and executive functioning skills

Required Physical Abilities:

  • Able to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to focus on computer tasks for prolonged periods of time
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Movement within and across a historic residential campus

Environmental Considerations:
Position works both in an office environment and outdoors. Indoors; seated or standing and utilizing standard office equipment such as networked computers, telephones, copiers, fax machines
Indoor office environment; heated and cooled institutionally.

Outdoor environment: Frequent room changes around campus, indoors and outdoors, over paved and rough terrain experiencing local temperature and weather variations.

  • Virtual work, 5 hours/week for OLCs (June thru start of Orientation)
  • Move back to campus 8/19
  • Training 8/19-8/20
  • Orientation 8/21-8/25 (various times throughout the day. Expect long shifts)
