DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the pool facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
- Be alert and watch the assigned area without distractions such as phones or electronics
- Handle and report all incidents in a manner appropriate to your training
- Be able to respond, contact EMS, and provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services including Lifesaving, First Aid, and CPR when necessary.
- Perform various cleaning and maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility. Monitor the pool facility and locker rooms for unsafe conditions and hazards.
- Maintain appropriate daily activity logs and maintenance reports
- Communicate and enforce all Wellness Center regulations and pool rules in a personable and professional manner
- Communicate any broken or potentially dangerous elements of the pool facility to the Director or Assistant Director
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and participate in staff trainings
- Conduct swim tests for children as needed
- Work as a team with other lifeguards and staff during work and assigned special events
- Test water, record results, and report imbalances to the supervisor
- Set up the pool for various activities such as laps, classes, swim team, lessons etc.
- Complete injury reports
- Assist the Director and Assistant Director in keeping the community informed of pool activities
- Have a safety-first attitude
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- 6 months to 1-year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Current certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training
PHYSICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Ability to swim long distances quickly
- Capable of performing rescues in the water
- Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods of time
- Endurance to handle high-stress situations, including potential rescues
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Working in an aquatics area that is kept at 85 degrees fahrenheit
- Contact with pool chemicals when resupplying pool or spa in the absence of the Aquatics Manager.
