Antioch College’s Data Verification and Oral Histories Project

We’re partnering with Publishing Concepts Inc. (PCI) to complete a data verification and oral history project. An accompanying book will be produced and will arrive in December of 2024.

We’re asking alumni to participate in the project. Your voice is vital to our history. This project will anthologize your stories for generations of Antiochians to view.

Sharing your story.

PCI will send you emails and postcards requesting to verify your contact information. Upon doing so, you’ll have the opportunity to share your Antioch story. A representative will be on the line to walk you through the process.

What should my story include?

It’s generally up to you, but here are some ideas to consider:

  • What were some of your favorite classes, and how did they shape your life?
  • Where did you go on co-op?
  • What kind of lasting relationships have you established?
  • What did you like to do as a student living on campus?
  • Where was your favorite spot on campus?
  • When you graduated, how did you? What did you do after Antioch?

Frequently Asked Questions

I received emails/postcards/phone calls from a company asking for my personal information and a story about Antioch College. What is this all about?

The College has partnered with PCI (also known as Publishing Concepts) to produce a publication of alumni memories. If you speak with one of their representatives, they will ask you about your personal experiences from your time at Antioch College and how the school helped shape your life since then. They will also check to ensure your contact information is current.

2. Is Antioch College paying PCI to conduct this project?

No, the College is not paying for this activity.  All costs, including postcards, phone calls, interviews, data management, design, copywriting, recording, and transcribing, are borne entirely by PCI.

Will this replace the Antioch Alumni Directory?

No. The Alumni Directory will continue unaffected by this project. As we receive updated contact information from PCI, we will also transfer it to the Alumni Directory. If you have not already done so, we encourage all alumni to register in the Directory at alumni.antiochcollege.edu.  All registered alumni will continue to have access to the Alumni Directory free of charge, whether or not they participate in the PCI project.

Suppose I do not want to participate in this project. What should I do?

PCI will make several attempts to contact you. Call the number on the postcard and tell them that you do not want to participate and to put you on the do-not-call list. You may also get an email. Do not hit reply. Scroll down and click on “unsubscribe”.  That will take you to a new screen; click on unsubscribe again.  Note that declining to participate will not affect your listing in the Alumni Directory or your ability to use the Alumni Association website (alumni.antiochcollege.edu). You may also contact Shane Creepingbear at screepingbear@antiochcollege.edu; he can unsubscribe you.

How does Antioch College benefit from this?
  • Updated Information – PCI will provide the College with updated contact information if your email address, mailing address, and/or telephone number are outdated. This allows us to be best equipped to communicate effectively with those alumni who want to be engaged.
  • Legacy – PCI will give us audio recordings and transcribed stories.  We will store them in the College archives and use them for our own publications and marketing initiatives, including recruitment.
  • Alumni Engagement – It allows a window of opportunity for our alumni to reflect on their time at Antioch and share that with the college. The non-fiction anthology of stories will be available to Antiochians for generations to come.
PCI sells memory books and other Antioch-themed merchandise. Does the College receive any of these proceeds?

No.  PCI keeps all proceeds for book and merchandise sales for this project. This is not a fundraising project for the college; rather, it is an alumni engagement and data verification project. If you want to purchase College-themed merchandise directly from us, check out the College store at https://antioch-college-c-shop.square.site/s/shop

How do I know my information will only be used for Oral History Project purposes?

PCI promises to protect your information. The names, addresses, and information provided to PCI for the publication of the Oral History Project will be held confidential by PCI, except to the extent that they are utilized in, or in the preparation of, the Oral History Project and except as required by court order or law. After the data verification aspect of the project, PCI clears its servers of any alumni-related data.

How can I participate if I am Deaf/Hard of Hearing?

If you would like to participate and are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, please email customerservice@publishingconcepts.com. PCI will send you a personalized link for you to share your written story and photo.

Can I choose what information prints in the publication?

The only information included in the publication is your name, class year, degree, story, and photo. No contact information is printed. When you call to update your contact information, it will only be used to update your College and Alumni Association alumni record. You may revoke consent for your story and/or photo to appear any time before 5/24/24 by contacting PCI’s customer service helpdesk at 1-800-982-1590 / customerservice@publishingconcepts.com.

I updated my information but need some more time to think about what experience to share.

You can call back at any time before 5/24/24 to share your story.

I shared a story and the representative said I could send a photo. How do I do this?

You will receive an email with a link to upload one photo (black and white or color) plus a caption.

If you have also purchased a book but do not have an email address on file, you will be sent a photo mailer to send a physical photo in to be printed (note: the photo will be returned if you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope).

Can anyone purchase a book?

The Antioch College Oral History Publication is available for sale only to Antioch College alumni.

When will I receive my book?

PCI takes about 12 months to collect and compile alumni stories before printing. Since we began the project at the end of November 2023, the books will be distributed sometime during or after December 2024.

I ordered a book / package over the phone and would like to cancel my order. How do I do this?

Contact PCI’s customer service helpdesk at 1-800-982-1590; they will take care of this for you.
