Position Summary:
The Counseling Services Assistant will provide administrative, creative, and project-based support to Antioch College Counseling Services. The Counseling Services department offers mental health counseling and coordinates wellness-focused programs for the Antioch College campus community, including prevention and education efforts, peer-led initiatives, informational workshops and collaborative programming.

This position supports projects such as campus-wide wellness events, promotion and outreach, department upkeep and design, and assistance with the ecotherapy gardening program. The position may also support a range of initiatives, including but not limited to community outreach efforts, identify grant opportunities, and promote student mental health advocacy.

Note: This position will not have access to confidential clinical information but will play a key role in enhancing wellness programming and engagement on campus.

Essential Responsibilities of the Position:
Projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with advertising and marketing programs (flyers, posters, social media posts).
  • Light cleaning, design, and organization of the counseling department or program spaces.
  • Supporting the ecotherapy gardening program through tasks such as plant upkeep, outdoor tidying, and assisting the program facilitator.
  • Serve as a peer leader in the ecotherapy gardening group to help foster student engagement and build leadership skills..
  • Research potential grant opportunities and support the preparation of funding materials.
  • Engaging in outreach to community organizations and networking with wellness and mental health partners.
  • Clerical tasks such as data entry, organizing program materials, and drafting communications.
  • Coordinating with local and national organizations for guest speaker events and potential partnerships.
  • Supporting research and outreach for wellness programming.
  • Generating reports and assisting with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable performing basic office tasks, including proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft, Excel, Word, email, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work with software systems and perform accurate data entry and database management tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and complete tasks accurately within established deadlines.
  • Self starter with strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Interest in mental health, behavioral wellness, community outreach, and program coordination.
  • Basic graphic design or fly/poster creation skills are required.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills pertaining to interacting with campus community members and external organizations/partnerships.
  • Ability to engage positively in peer leadership roles particularly with wellness and gardening programs.

  • Develop Program Management Skills- Learn to coordinate/support various wellness initiatives from ecotherapy gardening to campus-wide mental health workshops, enhancing project planning and organizational abilities.
  • Event Planning & Promotion- Gain hands-on experience designing flyers and social media campaigns, booking speakers, and executing outreach strategies that boost student engagement.
  • Community Outreach & Networking- Build relationships with local, regional, and national mental health organizations, expanding professional networks and learning best practices in partnership development.
  • Grant research and Proposal Preparation- Research funding opportunities, contribute to grant application materials, and understanding of non-profit contributions.
  • Enhance Peer Leadership & Facilitation- Serve as a peer leader in the ecotherapy gardening group, build group process skills, active listening, and supportive facilitative techniques.
  • Enhance Visual Design and Environmental Aesthetic Skills– Contribute to creating a welcoming and wellness-centered atmosphere by assisting with program space decor. Gain hands-on experience in designing visual displays, organizing materials, and implementing decor that reflects targeted themes.
  • Professional Communication– Draft clear, professional correspondence for internal and external partners, refining written and verbal communication skills.

Required Physical Abilities:

Must possess the physical ability to perform routine office tasks including but not limited to:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while performing office related tasks.
  • Capacity for light lifting no more than 50lbs and handling of materials.
  • Ability to move within and across a historic residential campus as needed.

Environmental Considerations:

  • Primarily works in an indoor office environment, seated or standing, utilizing standard equipment such as networked computers, telephones, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Office space is institutionally heated and cooled.
  • May assist with the gardening program through basic plant care, outdoor maintenance, and support of the program facilitator as needed.
  • Occasionally required to move around campus, both indoors and outdoors, navigating paved and uneven terrain while exposed to varying weather conditions.

Work Schedule:
Hours per Week: 10
Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends, with typical hours between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Flexibility within this timeframe is available. Additional hours can be provided per request/approval.
