Academic Year round including JA & ND Blocks

The Winter Farm to Table Assistant will spend 10 hours per week supporting the Antioch Farm and culinary and food service planning in the Antioch Kitchen.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Planning for the growing season. What to grow and how much?  (This is mostly during off season late fall and winter)
  • Communicating with the kitchen what is to be harvested in the near future, so that they are aware and ready to prepare it.
  • Washing produce (GAP trained ‘Good Agricultural Practices’).
  • Assists with transportation of farm products to North Kitchen
  • Cleans, processes, packages, and stores all farm produce in compliance with sanitation and safety guidelines set forth by the ODA (Ohio Department of Agriculture) and the Health Department “Person in Charge” certification
  • Creates recipes for items to sell using farm produce such as salsa, hot sauce, pepper relish, etc.
  • Works alongside the chefs to learn new techniques and develop cooking knowledge
  • Produce not used by the kitchen, distributed to other parts of campus to sell. (The Wellness Center and C-Shop.)
  • Practice safety with equipment and instruments
  • Perform clean up duties related to farm to table duties:
    • Washing dishes
    • Trash removal
    • Collect compost buckets

Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate is reliable, practices good communication, can work independently and as part of a team. This position requires flexibility with availability to fit the needs of the farm and kitchen.

Physical Requirements

For this position, individuals must be able to stand for long periods of time and bend over, lift, and carry up to 30 pounds, and push a wheelbarrow full of compost.

Environmental Considerations

On the Farm work outside in all weather.

The kitchen can be very loud when multiple pieces of equipment are running. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and allergens. Frequent contact with sharp objects, wet floors, and hot pans.
