You must be a registered Antioch College student to be eligible for this position.

January 8, 2024 and ends on or before March 22, 2024, upon approval of the job supervisor.

This position is hired for one full term at a time (11 weeks) upon approval of the job supervisor.

Peer tutors must provide a name of a relevant faculty member to use as a reference for the subject they intend on tutoring (ex: if applying for the academic writing and research tutor position, an English or Literature faculty member must provide a reference). Additionally, peer tutors should be in good academic standing.

Essential Responsibilities of the Position:

Tutors will work 10 hours a week, primarily hosting drop-in hours. Tutoring can take place as a group setting or individual services. Content areas are determined by need and student availability — priorities are for math, writing, languages, and science though tutors for other subjects may become available. Preferably, peer tutors will be able to tutor students in multiple different subjects. While sufficient content knowledge of a given topic (evaluated by a relevant faculty member) is required, peer tutors who can tutor in multiple different subjects are strongly encouraged to apply. Students will need to work with the Assistant Director of Student Success and Academic Resources each week to determine items for tutoring, topics from recent classes, and communication about tutoring session successes/needs. When students are not present for peer tutoring sessions, the peer tutor may be asked to work on marketing the services offered (this may look like creating and hanging up flyers, sending direct emails to students, and communicating with faculty on ways to increase student attendance). In addition to tutoring core content, peer tutors will offer “student success sessions” where they will coach their peers on time management, organizational skills, and study skills (training will be provided).

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and faculty
  • Should have the ability to use technology to join/host virtual tutoring sessions as needed
  • Present strong time management, organizational, and executive functioning skills
  • This position will require you to complete FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) training.

Required Physical Abilities:
Able to sit for prolonged periods of time
Able to focus on computer tasks for prolonged periods of time
Able to lift up to 25 pounds
Movement within and across a historic residential campus

Environmental Considerations:
Position works extensively in an office environment; seated or standing and utilizing standard office equipment such as networked computers, telephones, copiers, fax machines
Indoor office environment; heated and cooled institutionally
Occasional requirement to move around campus, indoors and outdoors, over paved and rough terrain experiencing local temperature and weather variations
