Position Summary:

The Peer Mentor for Academic Success supports fellow students in developing essential academic and personal success skills. This role focuses on helping peers strengthen their time management, organization, study strategies, and self-advocacy. Peer Mentors will provide one-on-one and group support, promote academic resources, and contribute to building a culture of success and accountability within the Antioch community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support peers in developing effective habits, including time management, organization, goal-setting, communication, peer feedback and editing, and self-advocacy.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Student Success and Academic Resources ( ADSSAR) to develop and facilitate group study sessions, time management workshops, and academic skill-building programs.
  • Hold walk-in hours and office hours in the Olive Kettering Library.
  • Support the ADSSAR to collaborate with faculty, staff, and advisors to identify and assist students who may benefit from additional academic support.
  • Assist with orientation and programming for new students to promote awareness of academic resources.
  • Help manage scheduling for peer mentoring sessions and maintain accurate records of student participation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, and staff through email, meetings, and events.
  • Assist the ADSSAR with general program support, such as, sending session reminders, and promoting Center for Academic Student Success (CASS) programming.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable and organized; able to manage appointments and deadlines effectively.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and facilitating discussions.
  • Familiarity with email, calendars, and basic digital tools.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to helping peers thrive academically and personally.
  • Completion of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) training required.

Required Physical Abilities:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment Considerations:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional movement around campus for events and meetings.
  • Indoor environment with standard office equipment and climate control.
  • Some outdoor activity may occur during campus events or programming.
