Notes From the Field is a series of updates from Antioch College faculty members about the travel, research, and other scholarly activities they’ve conducted.
Associate Professor of Performance Louise Smith ’77 has been on sabbatical since March 2019. As part of her sabbatical activities this year, she presented a collaboration with Selena Loomis-Amrhein ’17 called THE SYMPATHY OF ALL THINGS at Agraria on September 20.
Smith continues her sabbatical activities this October as a writer in residence at Yaddo for close to three weeks. (From their website: “Yaddo is a retreat for artists located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. Its mission is to nurture the creative process by providing an opportunity for artists to work without interruption in a supportive environment.”) Smith is working on a new play with multiple women characters, tentatively titled SOVEREIGNTY.
Smith will participate in a reading of a new work by Antioch alumna Ellen Maddow ’71, THE LEMON SISTERS or ART FOR THE ARTLESS, with the Talking Band in New York City October 28-30.
Smith will return to her regular position in Performance in January 2020 and will be teaching Storytelling and Dialogue Across Difference in winter quarter.
