Antioch College Works addresses work-readiness, affordability, and value of liberal arts education head-on.
Yellow Springs, OH (December 11, 2019) — Antioch College is pleased to announce Antioch College Works, a new program that fundamentally alters how higher education can address the needs of students and families by meeting full, demonstrated financial need for all students and providing full-tuition scholarships for students eligible for the Federal Pell Grant*.
Antioch College Works also guarantees real-world work experience and preparedness for all students, including the opportunity for job placement after graduation.
“The current struggle for viability in higher education is in no small part a crisis of public confidence in the value of a college degree, particularly one in the liberal arts,” says Antioch College President Tom Manley. “At Antioch, we are determined to demonstrate the value on both counts. The Antioch College Works program catalytically combines on- and off-campus, global, and after-graduation job experiences with inspiring academic study. Students graduate with a degree and a resume. And, they can do this more affordably through the Antioch College Works Scholarship and the paid employment opportunities the College provides.”
Through Antioch College Works, full-tuition, last dollar scholarships are guaranteed—after any federal, state, or outside scholarships are applied—for all new first-year students, transfer students, and continuing students beginning fall 2020. Students who are not eligible for Pell Grants will be considered for existing need and merit scholarships ranging from $10,000 to more than $30,000. The program also guarantees on-campus or community employment for each student, need-based stipends for international work through Cooperative Education, and a post-baccalaureate job placement to help launch students into their post-baccalaureate lives.

The College will increase accessibility for the students with the greatest need and reduce families’ debt burden with Antioch College Works, and it is the first liberal arts college in Ohio committing full-tuition scholarships for all Pell-eligible students.

Further, the Antioch College Works program integrates work-readiness for all students, building upon the College’s longstanding strengths through its signature work-learning Cooperative Education (Co-op) program.

“Antioch College has been developing and refining its Co-op approach for 100 years,” explains Manley. “We know it works because we have the testimonials from thousands of alumni and their employers to prove it. That’s why we believe no school is better equipped to anchor transformational learning through the experience of work than is ours.”
Students are drawn to Antioch College by Co-op and its transformational promise. The experience of real work in the world, including internationally, creates for students an undergraduate learning opportunity found nowhere else. “Co-op was a big draw and has been fundamental to my experience,” says Samuel Edwards, Class of 2018, who graduated with a degree in Political Economy. “Every Co-op changed and challenged me in ways I didn’t expect. They make me the person I am today and I wouldn’t change them for the world.” According to Media Arts graduate Odette Chavez-Mayo, Class of 2018, “Antioch has changed me in many ways, but the most important and meaningful lessons here have pushed me to be more confident and self determined.”
* About Pell Grants: The Federal Pell Grant Program provides need-based grants to low-income students. Financial need is determined by the US Department of Education using a standard formula, established by Congress, to evaluate the financial information reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and to determine the student’s expected family contribution (EFC).
The College is currently accepting applications for fall 2020 admission. Students are encouraged to complete their applications by the February 1 priority deadline.
