Community Manager Coco Gagnet ’18 announced today that Weston Hall would reopen with COVID-19 safety precautions. Students will be able to access Weston the rest of Fall 2020 quarter on Tuesdays from 3:30-6:30 PM and on Fridays from 7-10 PM.

One precaution in place is limiting the number of people in the building. Public Safety has determined the new capacities in Weston are:

  • Downstairs: 18
  • Pool room: 5
  • Upstairs: 17
  • Third floor conference room: 10 (by reservation only)

The space will be staffed by student monitors. They are not in the space to police, but to help the campus community collectively adhere to COVID-19 protocol and facilitate enjoying Weston safely. Additionally, these students will be offering services respective to their particular positions.

Students will check-in at the door. This will help track of occupancy, as well as provide a record for the purposes of accountability and contact tracing. Students are required to maintain mask and distancing protocols at all times. While students are encouraged to use the space to relax, relaxing in Weston cannot mean what it has meant in the past. This will be time for students to study, hang out, utilize the Free Store, and Food Pantry. IGs are invited to request the space for meetings or small gatherings.

A group of student workers worked hard to clean up Weston. Students are ask to respect their labor, and one another, by holding everyone to a high standard of stewardship. When using Weston, please wipe down all surfaces after use, dispose of any trash, and keep things orderly. The same principles apply to the Free Store and Food Pantry. These are both community resources that require community care. Developing this sense of responsibility for the collective is foundational to Antioch pedagogy.

Providing that things go well, other services will be integrated into Weston. For instance, a modified version of C-Shop, our campus coffee shop.
