In an op-ed published in The Columbus Dispatch on December 13, titled, “Here is how to be an antiracist in Ohio.” Dr. Kevin McGruder, vice president of Academic Affairs and associate professor of History, provides a list of 10 ways to support antiracist policies.
Dr. McGruder explains, “The weeks of nationwide Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May brought attention to the concept of antiracism, a belief that racial groups are equal.”
This concept, as Dr. McGruder points out, was articulated by historian Ibram X. Kendi in Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America. McGruder also notes that Kendi’s 2019 book How to Be an Antiracist, explains that not being racist is not enough to dismantle racism in our society.
