Portia Ann Brown, age 75, passed away on Dec. 12, 2017 at Monroe Manor in Paris, Mo.
Portia was born on Sept. 20, 1942 to Barney and Harriett Anne (Gray) Brown. They both preceded her in death.
Portia’s parents were very accomplished in the Arts. Her father, Barney, was an accomplished theater director at the Pasadena Playhouse in Pasadena, Calif. Her mother, Harriett, was a modern dance instructor at Stephens College and she established a very successful performing arts dance company in NYC that went on to tour throughout the United States for a number of years.
Portia held a BA in Applied Arts from Antioch College, and studied abroad. She taught art for a year before becoming ill.
She loved cats, painting and was a lifelong resident of Columbia. Throughout Portia’s formative years, she spent her summers at Perry Mansfield Performing Arts and Dance Academy in Steamboat Springs, Colo., where her mother taught dance and her father taught drama.
