Hall of Fame basketball coach John Chaney ’75—who passed away on January 29, 2021—will posthumously receive the 2021 National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Metropolitan Award presented by Nike. The award has been presented annually since 1941 in recognition of long and outstanding service to men’s college basketball.

Coach Chaney received a master’s degree in education from Antioch College in 1975.

One of the most respected coaches in college sports, Coach Chaney led the Temple University men’s basketball program for 24 years. He was twice named the national Division I coach of the year and his 1987-88 team ended the season ranked number one in the country.

The NABC will present the award to Cheney’s son, John Chaney Jr., during the virtual NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show. The program will be broadcast Friday, April 2 at 6:30 pm EDT via livestream on Stadium with a simulcast on the @Stadium Twitter page.
