CELEBRATING THE CLASS OF 2026
Antioch College is thrilled to announce 23 graduates received a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree this weekend.
The week of commencement was filled with celebration and reflection. Graduates showcased their final capstone projects during Colloquia on Thursday. You can view details about each graduate’s work on the 2026 Colloquia website. On Saturday Antiochians walked the commencement “stage.”
Joining us for the weekend festivities was keynote speaker Dr. Ruha Benjamin, the Alexander Stewart 1886 Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University. She is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work on the relationship between innovation, inequity, and justice. She is the author of influential books including Race After Technology and Viral Justice, and a leading voice on the ethical dimensions of emerging technologies.
Three graduates also participated with remarks: Heather Cain, Lark Orbe, and Colin Ross. Larry Rubin ‘65 welcomed the class of 2026 into the Antioch College Alumni Association.
The commencement weekend festivities wrapped up on Sunday with a community brunch. Dr. Benjamin gave a keynote address titled “What We Tend, What We Pass On: Collective Care and Creative Futures.” The remarks served as inspiration for meaningful dialogue amongst attendees that followed Dr. Benjamin’s message.

ANTIOCHIANS AND VILLAGERS ENJOY A HISTORIC BASEBALL GAME
The Antioch community and members of the Yellow Springs community gathered on the front lawn of Main Hall to watch a historic baseball rematch commemorating the rainout game between the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings and the Antioch Nine.

2026 SOIL HEALTH SYMPOSIUM CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Antioch College invites proposals for and participation in the 2026 Soil Health Symposium themed as “Roots, Reach, and Responsibility: Connecting Soil Health to Food Forests and Pollinator Pathways for Community Impact.”
This event is taking place on Friday, November 13, 2026. Hosted by the Antioch College Micro Farm & Learning Hub, the Symposium will convene growers, researchers, educators, students, and practitioners to discuss and amplify practices for soil health, regenerative land stewardship, the creation and maintenance of pollinator pathways, and more. Note, this symposium/workshop is hosted in coordination with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Regional Conservation Partnership Program 2794.

Richard Kraince, Associate Professor of Cooperative and International Education, delivered a virtual public lecture on “Celebrating Orchids for Habitat Conservation: Education for a Sustainable Future” at the 2026 Nusantara Orchid Biodiversity Show (NOBiS) at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on May 30, 2026. The talk focused on conservation education efforts conducted by the Native Orchid Preservation and Education Society (NOPES) in the great state of Ohio, which is home to at least 50 native orchid species. It also covered the recent controversy over the proposed data center just a few miles upstream from Cedar Bog in Urbana.

Anna Chiaretti Lavatelli, Assistant Professor of Media Arts, co-hosted a documentary film series throughout the month of May with post-film discussions at the Little Art Theatre. The series featured recent documentary films that look deeply into the ways people can organize, demonstrate, and fight for a better world. Each film in the series investigates methods of resistance from labor organizing, to tribal and governmental protection of ecosystems, student protest, and subversive activist work to bring justice to people detained by ICE. The series screened the following films: 9to5: The Story of a Movement (2021, dir. Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar), WTO/99, (2025, dir. Ian Bell), Yanuni (2025, dir. Richard Ladkani), Deaf President Now! (2025, dir. Nyle DiMarco and Davis Guggenheim), and The Infiltrators (2019, dir. Christina Ibarra and Alex Rivera).

We also have our perennial favorite activities: the Thursday bonfire, Cabaret Horace on Friday, and on Saturday, DIV Dance!

A history of Antioch College during the central event in American history, the US Civil War, including exploits and experiences of Antiochians who served in the conflict.
August 12 – The Devil and Daniel Ellsberg or How Scott Got Fired
A brief history of Antiochiana and a harrowing personal account of Scott’s experiences with Antioch University.
September 9 – The Life of Hugh Taylor Birch
The improbable rags to riches story of a dropout from the 1860s who gave Antioch College a glen (and so much more) and has a dormitory named in his honor.
October 14 – Women of the Glen
The lives of three women associated with the College’s former nature preserve: a scientist, an art collector, and a sculptor.
November 11 – My Hero Horace Mann
A biographical picture show about Antioch College’s first president.
