Sandra Stone Bailey, age 87, of Branford, CT, passed away on July 25,2021.
She grew up in Dearborn, MI, where her father worked in The Ford Motor Plant and her mother was a state social worker. At 17, she received a full scholarship to attend Antioch College in Ohio where she studied psychology and Art.
After graduating, she attended Yale School of Art where she met and married the painter William Bailey (who died in 2020). In 1962 they moved to Bloomington, IN, for 6 years where she had her children and met many lifelong friends. They then made New Haven their home for more than 20 years.
She was a gifted painter who used her maiden name Stone professionally. For most of her life she painted models who posed in her home studio. In later years she exhibited regularly with the still life collective Zeuxis.
She had many interests and creative talents, devoured books, and more than anything, loved raising her children and being grandmother to their children.
She was a bright, thoughtful, sensitive, kind, helpful, curious friend, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children Ford and Alix, her daughter in law Antonia, her 5 grandchildren, her nieces and nephews and cousins.
Donations can be made in her name to the Branford Compassion Club.
