Baseball on the Lawn: A Historic Game at Antioch College
May 29 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

⚾ The 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings vs. The Springfield Reapers
This event is free and open to the public, with concessions available.
This commemorative baseball game continues a story more than 150 years in the making. Originally scheduled for May 31, 1869, Antioch College was set to face the Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first fully professional baseball team, as part of their groundbreaking national tour. That game was rained out, postponing what would have been a historic moment.
In 2019, Antioch finally “made up” that matchup in a spirited contest played by vintage baseball rules, before gloves and many modern conventions, bringing the past vividly to life. Today’s commemorative game carries that tradition forward, with the Springfield Reapers stepping in to represent Antioch College.
