The Community Care Organizer is responsible for work with the President on fostering Community and supporting shared governance at Antioch College. The Organizer will work with all branches of governance at Antioch to create and/or increase transparency, inclusion, belonging, empowerment, and well-being for community members.
OUTCOMES:
- Facilitate Endeavor grant initiatives, including curriculum, services and supports, purposeful life and work, Nature RX, and events and activities related to campus wellbeing and belonging.
- Ensure that Community Council, College Council, and other governing bodies involved with community governance are running smoothly and promoting campus wellbeing.
- Liaise between Community Council and College Council to spearhead campus initiatives of community care and conflict resolution.
- Ensure that members of Community Council are aware of and accomplishing their duties and responsibilities in accordance with community governance traditions and bylaws, within what is possible.
- Engage with the Community in ways that assure the community governance processes are accessible, transparent, and well known by the community-at-large.
- Schedule and conduct a Community Meeting every Tuesday from 2:30-3:30 to address campus issues and communicate campus events.
- Capture and organize documentation of activities for community governance archives.
- Schedule and facilitate Community Day events once per term that promote community-wide togetherness and well-being.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Spearhead campus initiatives of wellbeing adhering to the goals of the Endeavor Foundation in purposeful life and work, services and supports, Nature RX, curricular development, and community care.
- The community care coordinator will serve as a case manager on the First Care Team in coordination with Student Life and the Dean of Students.
- Participate in: the Endeavor Working Group, Community Council, and College Council.
- Organize, facilitate, and run elections for students, faculty, and staff representatives for each of these bodies as needed.
- Understand and support current policies and procedures of community governance to ensure requirements are properly followed.
- Maintain thorough documentation related to community governance and maintain communication of pertinent information to the community.
- Design Community Meeting content, set agendas, and run Community Meetings to present information and effectively discuss community issues and wellbeing on campus.
- Plan and conduct a Community Day each term in collaboration with the Community Council, and with the larger community.
- The community care organizer may request funding from the President’s office in connection with Endeavor Lab college expenses.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the mechanisms of community governance and propose changes to the governing bodies as needed to address issues of campus wellbeing.
- Communicate and publish any changes or additions related to community governance documents following the community council’s bylaws with full transparency and final approval from the College Council.
- This is not an exhaustive list of responsibilities; other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated commitment to Antioch values, including but not limited to: open-mindedness, social justice, participatory democracy, antiracism, diversity, and shared governance.
- Demonstrated understanding of how structural systems of oppression including but not limited to racism and white supremacy, sexism and rape culture, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ageism, and ableism, as well as trauma resulting from them, affect relationships of power, privilege, and belonging in a community and place community members in different positions of agency and vulnerability within an institution, with different needs, priorities, and abilities.
- Two years or more of leadership experience in nonprofit or community organizations, or community, movement, or coalition building.
- Strategic and organizational skills.
- Experience providing care and support for advocates, students, and/or employees engaging in mission-driven work.
- An understanding of Antioch College’s Sexual Offense Prevention Policy (SOPP) and Racial Discrimination Prevention Policy (RDPP) and their ethos.
- Working knowledge of Antioch College’s history and current challenges.
- Demonstrated understanding of the workings of shared governance.

- Familiarity with the full suite of Google Workspace tools, including Calendar, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Share Drive management, etc.

- Conflict-resolution skills.
- Documentation skills to capture information, make it searchable/useful, and archive community governance records.
- Maintain communication on Antioch-related media devices.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Standard workspace is in an office environment with institutional heating and cooling.
- Able to move around campus across occassionally uneven, unpaved, or wet/slippery surfaces.
- Utilization of standard office equipment such as networked computers, telephones, and copiers.
- Ability to move around campus, indoors and outdoors, over paved and rough terrain in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
