Susan Jean Mayer is a curricular theorist who writes and speaks on the aims and character of distinctively democratic pedagogical practices based upon the philosophy of pragmatism and progressive understandings of learning and development. Her most recent book Practicing Pragmatism through Progressive Pedagogies (Routledge, 2024) makes a case for returning to—and reinventing—Dewey for the work of educating in these times.
