Mr. Kenneth James “Buster” Hamilton of San Diego, Calif., passed away peacefully at the age of 92, at his home in San Diego, on Nov. 7, 2019.
He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed golf, basketball, bowling and especially his poker games! He really loved his poker games! He played poker until a few months before his passing.
Buster was a star basketball player at Bryan High School in 1945, in the position of point guard. He had the highest average points in the season. Later in life, his jersey was retired at Yellow Springs High, but he played basketball well into his 60s!
He played for the All-Army team in basketball, traveling with the team and playing other service teams in the U.S.
He worked as a civil servant, and later managed the coffee shop at Antioch College, and when his father, Kenneth James Hamilton, Sr. passed away, Buster took over as manager of the Antioch Inn. He then moved to Dayton, where he began working for Metropolitan Life and later transferred to San Diego.
Kenneth James “Buster” Hamilton was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth James Hamilton Sr., and Etta Belle (Perry) Hamilton, his sisters Barbara R. Davis and Virginia Esther Hamilton Adoff ’57.
Mr. Hamilton is survived by his wife of 55 years, Priscilla Anne Hamilton, of San Diego, Calif., his sister Nina Anthony, of Columbus and his brother William Levi Hamilton, of Englewood, NJ.
His surviving children are Nina Lynn (Hamilton) Rios, of Yellow Springs, Linda K. Hamilton of Bellbrook, Marla Yevon Hamilton, of Vallejo, Calif., Kenneth James Hamilton III, of San Diego, Calif., Jeffrey Kenneth Hamilton, of Temecula, Calif., and April Anne Chapman, of Chula Vista, Calif.
Surviving grandchildren are Ettamarie Lorraine Valdez, Jason Thomas Hamilton, Jacqueline Rose Ballard and Ava May Hamilton.
Surviving great grandchildren are Esperanza Rosemary Pennartz, Sophia Svea Hagstrom, Lilly Elizabeth Valdez Hagstrom, Payden Lawrence Ballard and Makaila Rose Ballard. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
