Maurice “Moe” Chester Seager, age 88, of Swain, N.Y., died peacefully at home on Aug. 5, 2021.

He is survived by his children, Marcia (Glenn) Swan of Freeville, N.Y., and Michael (Gretchen Donnan) Seager of Swain, N.Y.; his sister, Mary Seager Norton, of Canaseraga, N.Y.; nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, numerous cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline “Polly” Dailey Seager; by his brothers, Philip Seager and Daniel Seager; and his parents, Philip Seager and Belle Baker Seager.

Moe, born Jan. 15, 1933, served in the Army and was stationed in Germany in the early 1950s. After his discharge, he studied engineering, first at Antioch College in Ohio, then at the University of Idaho and Cornell University. He taught physics, chemistry, and math at Cincinnatus Central School, where he also coached the girls’ volleyball teams to many winning seasons. He retired in 1992 after 25 years of service.

Moe and Polly were longtime residents of Cortland, N.Y., before they retired to the Seager family farm in Swain.

Moe enjoyed the outdoors, natural history, photography, wood crafts, reading, and all of the family dogs. He introduced his children to camping, hiking, canoeing, bicycle touring, star gazing, crossword puzzles, and adventuring. He always had stories to tell.
