Thelma Agnes Davis Vowels, 92, of Brandywine, Maryland, was born on April 16, 1933, at 1:05 a.m. at
1818 Woodyear Street, Baltimore, Maryland, as one of fourteen children of the late Floyd and Bessie Davis.
She passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, following an extended illness.
Thelma received her education in Baltimore City schools and completed a nursing course, subsequently working as a Licensed Practical Nurse in private duty care. Over the years, she supported numerous families
by caring for more than ten children. Her dedication to serving others was evident throughout her life. She was married to the late Robert T. Vowels, Jr., for twenty-five years and was the mother of six children. she committed her life to faith at a young age, often engaging in discussions about her beliefs and enjoying music.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Johnson and son George “Butch” Johnson, Jr.;
her parents; twelve of her thirteen brothers and sisters; grandson Robert Travis Vowels IV.; and
great-great grandson Noah Maurice Barnes.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her “baby” sister, Mildred (Davis) Waters; her children Deborah Davis Young, Robin Vowels Wynder, Wanda M. Carter, and Robert T. Vowels, III; one son-in-law, Kevin Carter; eight grandchildren Wanda Bibbins (Kevin), Lisa Sutton (Ted), Bernard Wynder, Jr., Brandie McIntyre, Tiara Makle (Kevin), Daniel Vowels, Kevin Carter, Jr., and Kelvin Carter; eighteen great-grandchildren Noelle Barnes, Kassidy Nicita, Genesis Sutton, Gabrielle McIntyre, Neviah McIntyre, Jeremiah Sutton, Kamea McIntyre,
Caleb Sutton, Marcus I. McIntyre, Charleigh Smith, Emmanuel Dada, Karter Makle, Sodaytra Vowels, Marquez Vowels, Se’Jah Vowels, Isaiah Vowels, Zakei Vowels, and Kalani Vowels; two great-great-grandchildren Maddison Wilson and Wynter Barnes.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel, 20605 Aquasco Road, Aquasco, Maryland 20608, beginning at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Service at 10:00 a.m.
