Canandaigua – Hiram J. Avery, age 96, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, July 8, 2024. He is survived by two sons, Charles E. Avery and Matthew T. Avery; five granddaughters, Nicole, Carly, Kathryn, Julia and Haley; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy Avery in 2017; and daughter, Amber Avery in 2022.
Hiram was born and raised in Canandaigua and was the son of Hiram J. and Ida Leona (Sperry) Avery. He attended Canandaigua schools and was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy, class of 1946. Hiram earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Antioch College in Ohio, in 1954. He was a US Army veteran. Hiram worked as a mechanical engineer at Xerox Corp. from 1962-1995. He enjoyed photography, dancing with his wife Peggy, and spending time with his family. Hiram was a train enthusiast.
Services are private. Interment will be in White Haven Memorial Park, Perinton.
