Michael C. Aleshire WALLINGFORD — Michael Clarke Aleshire, 93, died the morning of September 20, 2024, at the Essex Center in Elizabethtown, NY. He was born Jan. 22, 1931, in Chicago, IL to Edward Maurice Aleshire and Beatrice Cowen Aleshire. Michael was a photographer by trade and worked for many years in the darkroom at the Rutland Herald. He attended Colgate University and Antioch College, studied theatre, and acted in summer stock plays. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Michael was drafted during the Korean War and stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge. While in the service he was trained as a photographer and went on to work in commercial photography in New York City. Michael is survived by his three children: Anne Aleshire (husband Enrique Lopez-Castro and two daughters) of Oakland, CA; Bridget Aleshire (husband Ben Throckmorton) of Charlottesville, VA; Benjamin Aleshire of Shrewsbury, VT—and by his second wife, Joan Aleshire of Shrewsbury, VT. He was predeceased by his third wife, Christa Onion Aleshire, in 2015; his first wife, Bunny Crumpacker, in 2010; and his sister, Anne Harrington Aleshire, in 1950. In 1961 he came to Vermont and worked at Spring Lake Ranch; later he opened a portrait studio on Center Street in Rutland. Michael was an artist and avid reader. There will be no calling hours or memorial service.
