Allan Homer McCue died peacefully on November 10, 2024 while in care at Kaplan Hospice House, at age 93. Homer was born in Topeka, KS and son to Howard F. and Blanche A. McCue. He grew up in Topeka with his brother Tom, and two sisters, Marcia and Mary McCue.

Homer graduated from Topeka High School in 1948 and received his bachelor’s degree from Antioch College in 1953 where he developed his interest in ministry through their work-study program. Homer went on to enroll in Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA where he earned his Master’s degree in Biblical and Philosophical Theology. During his last year he met Cynthia Bryant and they were married in September 1956. They began their married life in Cincinnati, OH, where they started a family and their two sons, Allan and Steve, were born. Upon arrival in Cincinnati, Homer began his first ministry as Curate at Grace Church. In 1966, Homer accepted an offer to become the Minister at St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Beverly, MA. The family lived in Beverly for a short time before settling in Wenham in 1968 where their daughter, Mara, was born.

Reverend Allan Homer McCue served as Minister of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Beverly, MA for 26 years from 1966-1992. Homer always had a passion for helping the community and those in need. He founded a preschool at St. Peter’s for underprivileged children. In 1989, Homer traveled to Africa as Co-Chair of Diocesan Pilgrimage to Zimbabwe, with a sabbatical mission to help make a difference for African families and children in need.

Homer touched many lives with his kindness, patience and support. After retiring from St. Peter’s, he remained active in the church community filling in as Interim Minister for several churches including St. Peter’s, Christ Church in Hamilton, MA and St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Chatham, MA.
Homer enjoyed splitting his time living in Wenham and Chatham with his wife, Cynthia until her passing in November 2022. He loved spending time with family, friends, and fellow parishioners. He was a Boston sports fan especially the Red Sox. Among his many interests were music, singing, writing, tennis and horseshoes. His favorite dining spot for seafood was Woodman’s in Essex where he’d order one of everything.

He is survived by his son, Allan B. McCue of Wenham; his son, Stephen McCue and his wife Cheryl of Franklin; his daughter, Marjorie “Mara” Harres of Wenham, as well as four grandchildren; Taylor McCue, Dayna McCue, Benjamin Harres and Grace Harres; and his brother Thomas McCue and his sister, Mary McCue of Lawrence, KS.

His memorial service will be celebrated at Christ Church of Hamilton & Wenham, 149 Asbury Street, S. Hamilton, on Saturday, November 23rd at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Friday, November 22nd from 4pm to 7pm.
