David Paul Tulin, son of Morris and Eleanor (Kovitsky) Tulin of West Hartford, Conn., passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024.
David was born on April 12, 1944 and raised in West Hartford with his four sisters. He graduated from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in 1966 and completed his graduate coursework at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he resided for most of his life. He began his career in education, moving to management and leadership positions in Philadelphia’s Jewish community and then serving for nearly a decade as the Executive Director of Fellowship Farm (now Working Together), an educational center for human relations and social change in Fagleysville, Penna. After developing and delivering diversity workshops and retreats for the Philadelphia public-school system, he founded Tulin DiversiTeam Associates, a consulting firm through which he delivered similar workshops and retreats for Fortune 500 companies over nearly 20 years.
Those who knew David will always remember his gregarious personality, his abiding sense of justice and fairness, his lifelong commitment to Judaism and Israel and, above all, his boundless love for the extended Tulin family. A truly unpretentious people person, he went to great lengths to celebrate the successes of his colleagues, family and friends, and to comfort and help them when they were in need. He also was a talented amateur musician; read voraciously; collected Israeli art and artifacts; doted endlessly on his granddaughter, nieces and nephews; was a lifelong Elvis fan; loved going to Broadway musicals; developed an unrequited crush on Audra McDonald; and spent a night in prison after being arrested at a college civil-rights demonstration.
David is predeceased by his wife, Lois Young Tulin, and is survived by his son, Barak (Terri); his sisters Ruth Tulin Cion (George), Anne Tulin Williamson (Brad), Libby Tulin (Len Gross) and Judy Tulin; his nieces Shira Cion (Rumen Shopov), Raquel Cion and Mya Williamson; his nephews Jacob Williamson (Sarah), Matthew Gross (Jennifer Babcock) and Daniel Gross; his granddaughter Michaela; and his great-niece Ella.
The funeral will take place on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Shalom Jewish Funeral Home, 1528 Castle Hill Avenue, Bronx, NY 10462. Interment will immediately follow at Sharon Gardens, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, NY 10595. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Hudson Valley chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy or The American Friends of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam.
