Artist and ESL teacher Elaine Smith passed away peacefully on January 25 at the age of 86 at her home in Ancramdale, surrounded by her children, Daniel and Jessica, and daughter-in-law Lauren. She was the loving wife of late sculptor Leon Smith. She is survived by her sister, Francine Levine; grandchildren David, Julia, Benjamin, Zorigt, and Nergui; and nieces Karen Levine and Susan Levine. Born in New York City, Elaine attended Antioch College before moving to London to attend the Slade School of Fine Art. She studied at the Art Students League in NY, and eventually obtained her BA from The New School.
