Dr. Victor F. Ayoub, of Yellow Springs, OH, passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at Friends Care Center. He was 96.
Dr. Ayoub was emeritus professor of anthropology at Antioch College, where he had also served as Trustee.
Dr. Ayoub held a B.A. in Literature from Antioch College (1949), an M.A. in Philosophy from Columbia University (1951), and a Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from Harvard University (1955).
His extensive academic and administrative career included teaching at Antioch College for over twenty years with distinction, teaching at several other American universities as a visiting professor, spending many years abroad, mostly in the Middle East, where he conducted anthropological field research, teaching at the American University of Beirut for two years
He also served as USIA Academic-in-Residence for Near East and south Asia for over four years, directing and coordinating several study abroad programs, editing professional journals, and serving as an academic administrator in many varied roles and capacities. Dr. Ayoub was noted for combining intellectual and critical thinking with fair, firm, reasoned and balanced administrative decision-making.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate Victor’s life at a later time and date. The funeral arrangements are entrusted to Jackson Lytle and Lewis Funeral Home.
