A retrospective film screening of the work of award-winning filmmaker Johanna Bermúdez-Ruiz ’98 will be presented in New York City at The Center on Monday, November 18, 2019; doors open at 6:30 PM, reception 7:00–9:00 PM, screenings 8:00–9:00 PM. Registration is free (according to The Center website, $10 suggested donation; all donations are voluntary and any amount is appreciated).

The award-nominated documentary film, “Sugar Pathways” will be screened followed by the award-winning short film premiere of “Soléne” and Q&A led by former Speaker of the New York City Council, Melissa Mark-Viverito. The films portray migration and LBGTQ love set in the Caribbean.

Johanna Bermúdez-Ruiz is a graduate of the Antioch College Class of 1998, and an award-winning filmmaker of Afro-Indigenous descent and Puerto Rican heritage native to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Ms. Bermúdez-Ruiz’s films have garnered national and international attention and have been shown worldwide. She is currently on a NY and LA Film Premiere/Academic Lecture Tour.
