Hassan Rahmanian, Faculty Emeritus, Presidential Professor of Political Economy, received his BA and MA in Economics from the University of Tehran (Tehran, Iran) and completed his Ph.D. in Public Policy Research & Analysis from the Graduate School of Public & International Affairs, University of Pittsburgh in 1986. Hassan arrived at Antioch College in the fall of 1986 as an assistant professor of business and management. He earned tenure in the fall of 1991 and was promoted to associate professor of management. His leadership service to the college included terms on the Faculty Senate Steering Committee, the Faculty Executive Committee, and several terms of membership on the Administrative Council (AdCil) both as a faculty and community representative. He chaired the Management Program for several terms and coordinated the Department of Social & Global Studies for a four-year period beginning in 1998. At the closing of the College, Hassan rose as a leader in the Nonstop movement and was a founding member of the Nonstop Liberal Arts Institute’s Executive Collective. He was responsible for coordinating the Institute’s academic and educational program. From June 2009 to June 2010, he was senior director of institutional research & evaluation at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, California.

From April 2011 till July 2014 Hassan served as the College’s first chief academic officer and vice president for academic affairs after its reopening. During this time he helped to build the new faculty, from the original six to about thirty-five, to launch the new curriculum, to rebuild academic infrastructure, to secure authorization from the Ohio Board of Regents to award degrees and to serve as co-chair of the Self-Study Steering Committee to further the College’s accreditation efforts. Since July 2014, Hassan has assumed a new role as Dean of Global Education and Presidential Professor of Political Economy. In this new leadership role, Hassan will help develop, plan, and implement the College’s global learning initiatives.

Hassan’s research and scholarly interests and works span over a wide range of topics including: empowerment and democracy in organization, affirmative action and diversity, time and the workplace, and globalization & modernizations.
