Shirley Clark Guenther, born August 6, 1930, passed away on August 2, 2021 at the age of 90.
“…as when a ship goes over the horizon we weep and cry ‘There she goes’ while on the other side, far from our sight and comprehension, joyous voices sing out, ‘Here she comes.'”
Shirley was born to Russell Donald Clark and Marie Hoagland Clark in Cincinnati, OH but soon moved to Buffalo, NY where she graduated from Lafayette High School. She is a graduate of Antioch College ’53 (B.A in Biology) and University of Pittsburgh (Master’s in Library Science).
She was an educator in the Ohio County School system for 26 years. Her husband Gordon Brewster Guenther ’51 and son David Guenther predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughters Judith Guenther Madaras (Eric) and Kathryn Guenther Mitton (Bruce); her grandchildren David (Amanda), Scott, and Megan Madaras; and her great-granddaughter, Charlie Madaras.
A Zoom memorial service will be held September 4 at 3:00 PM EST. In lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to Unitarian Universalist Church of Williamsburg, VA or the charity of your choice.
