Long-time Kendal at Hanover resident Audrey Cherin (née Marsh) passed away on September 20, 2022, nine days short of her 89th birthday, after a brief illness.
Audrey was born on September 29, 1933 in New York City, to Leonore (née Ehrlich) and Samuel Marsh, a well-known typographer and graphic artist who, among other accomplishments, designed several U.S. postage stamps.
Audrey was raised in Mamaroneck and Larchmont, N.Y., and attended Oakwood Friends School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. She attended Antioch College in Ohio and received a bachelor’s degree in English from Hunter College in New York City.
She taught elementary school at Watchung School in Montclair, NJ prior to the birth of her first child. Some years later, she returned to school to earn an M.A. in Psychology and worked as a school psychologist for the Montclair Public Schools. Later, she earned a Certificate in Marriage and Family Counseling, and was employed as a psychotherapist at the Montclair Counseling Center for many years.
Later in life, Audrey traveled as a volunteer with Operation Crossroads Africa and worked with Habitat For Humanity. She was also an avid tennis player and lover of the arts.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, attorney Richard Cherin, in January, 2012. She is survived by her children Eva Cherin (Craig Rudman) of Denver, Colorado, Emily Cherin of Medford, MA and Jonathan Cherin of Berkeley, CA; her sister, Ellen Marsh, 93, of Gwynedd, PA (formerly of New York, NY); and five grandchildren: Dr. Jordan Rudman, Hannah Rudman, Samuel Cherin, Elijah Cherin, and Gabriel Cherin.
