Campus Housing Information

Birch Hall

Birch Hall is named after Hugh Taylor Birch, a 1869 alumnus who donated the Glen Helen to Antioch College to honor the memory of his daughter. It was designed by Eero Saarinen who also designed the St. Louis Gateway Arch. Birch Hall is considered an outstanding example of the modern Cubist style of post-WWII architecture and was completed in 1948.

Birch Hall is at the northeast edge of campus near Corry Street and is in convenient proximity to Pennell House and Weston Hall. Birch is outfitted with air-conditioning, high-speed wi-fi, elevator access and offers a full kitchen on both residential floors. Coin-free laundry is available on 1st floor; also on 1st floor is the Antioch Kitchen and the limited storage available for co-op students. Each residential wing offers a community lounge and restroom. Birch is also currently home to our interest housing: People of Color (POC) floor, LGBTQ+ floor, and Women’s floor. The 4th wing is unthemed/student-created.

Birch features tilt-out windows as well as built-in dressers, closets, desks, shelves, and storage space. Beds and desk chairs are moveable. Windows have miniblinds for privacy.

North Hall

North’s first residents were the entering class of 1853 and is one of the original campus structures. In 2011, a $5.7 million renovation project was launched to incorporate features that combine comfort and sustainable living. In the fall of 2012, the College unveiled the newly renovated North Hall.

North is centrally located along the horseshoe and in convenient proximity to campus services and academic buildings. North is equipped with central air conditioning, wi-fi, and elevator access. 1st floor offers a community coin-free laundry as well as access to North Kitchen (typically used for Community Days and Volunteer Work party). Each residential floor also offers a community lounge, kitchenette, and two common restrooms.

North rooms feature completely movable furniture, including wardrobes. Double hung windows are equipped with shades for privacy.

Two of the Case Units have eight single rooms, two restrooms and a shared living room/kitchen.
