Visiting Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics

Dr. Shadi Heenatigala completed her Ph.D. in Mathematics at Texas Tech University in the summer of 2023. She also earned her M.S. from Texas Tech in 2020 and her B.Sc. from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, Sri Lanka, in 2017. Prior to joining Antioch College, she worked as an Assistant Professor of Instruction at Texas State University.
She teaches mathematics and statistics courses for both major and non-major students. Her doctoral research focused on structure-preserving low-rank tensor methods for the Vlasov-Poisson and Vlasov–Maxwell systems. Currently, her research interests include high-order numerical methods, scientific computing, and tensor-based approaches to solving complex physical systems.
Outside of teaching and research, Shadi enjoys mentoring students and supporting their academic growth. In high school in Sri Lanka, she played hockey and was a member of the Colombo district team. She also enjoys drawing, traveling, playing games, and watching movies.
