organized by the Village Impact Project in partnership with Antioch College and the Coretta Scott King Center.

West African Dance with Queen Zabriskie

When: July 3, 2024 from 6:00pm-7:30pm

Where: The Wellness Center Studio A (240 E South College St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387)

Join us for an exciting and joyful West African Dance class! Come move your body as we learn djembe dances from Guinea, West Africa. Please wear comfortable clothing in which you can easily move, such as a loose-fitting top, sports bra, leggings, sweatpants, or shorts. If possible, please bring a bright-colored scarf that you can tie around your hips. You will be dancing barefoot in class; however, jazz shoes are also acceptable. Please remember to bring a water bottle or sports drink to stay hydrated.

Gardening with Reilly Dixon

When: July 7, 2024 from 11:00am-1:00pm

Where: 320 Union St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387

Join us for a delightful day of gardening! We will be harvesting garlic and planting sunflowers, promoting eco-friendly practices and community engagement. Remember to come prepared by wearing sunscreen to protect your skin, bringing gloves to handle the plants, dressing in attire that can get dirty as we work the soil, and bringing along water to stay hydrated throughout our gardening adventure.

Yoga with Donna Haller

Join us as we explore various yoga poses, breathing techniques, and mindfulness practices to cultivate inner peace and well-being. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, this workshop offers something for everyone. Remember to bring a yoga mat, comfortable clothing, and an open heart as we journey together towards greater harmony of body, mind, and spirit.

Creative Writing with Sharon Lane

When: August 6, 2024 from 1:00pm-4:00pm

Where: Coretta Scott King Center (781 Livermore St, Yellow Springs, OH 45387)

Join us for “Mindful Expression: Finding Your Voice in Writing,” a creative writing workshop led by Sharon Lane. Sharon, a dedicated singer/songwriter, writer, and teacher, taught lyric composition and spoken word at Stivers School for the Arts and is a local musician.

A Juneteenth Celebration

This event will feature naps, tea, a yoga-pilates fusion workshop, and literature by Black Queer authors.

Come to the CSKC and rest your body as an act of resistance. Bring yoga mats, pillows, and blankets
We will provide the good vibes and set the peaceful atmosphere.

Join us for a Black Queer literature read-in!

Restoration: 2-3 PM 
Join Maaliyau for a restorative yoga-pilates fused workshop.

Join Maaliyau for Whine Night as we get ready for the week!

This will be a fun, interactive night of Caribbean dance, so come ready to move your body like never before.

Juneteenth Movie Night! 

In collaboration with the Village Impact Project, we are excited to host a Juneteenth Movie Night.
Join us for this fun, family-friendly celebration of freedom that is open to the entire community.

This event will feature food and yard games. We will also have music provided by DJ Max!

Yellow Springs’ Black Civil War Veterans Genealogy Workshop

Workshop Lead: Dan Gediman ‘82 and Denyce Peyton

Hosted by the Coretta Scott King Center

Antioch College welcomes Reckoning, Inc. to lead the Yellow Springs’ Black Civil War Veterans Genealogy Workshop. In this workshop, each participant will research a 19th century Yellow Springs resident who was a Civil War veteran. Prior to the workshop each participant will be sent via email some recommended readings about the history of Black soldiers’ role in the Civil War, as well as copies of the combined military service records (CMSR) and a pension file for their assigned veteran. It will be assumed that participants will read through these materials prior to the first workshop session.

There are no prerequisites and no background in history or genealogy necessary. This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in African American history, Yellow Springs history, or genealogical research, especially members of the local Black community.

Two Saturdays: December 2nd and 9th 9am-12:00pm and 1-4:00pm lunch is included. 

Fee: General $150, Senior Citizens $95, Students $75
